Lucknow: In a move aimed at providing high-quality medicines at an affordable price, the state government is set to establish in-house pharmacies on the public-private partnership (PPP) model soon. These pharmacies will be set up in government medical colleges in Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Meerut, Agra, Prayagraj and Jhansi.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has instructed officials of the directorate of medical education and training to optimise the medicine distribution system in medical colleges for the benefit of patients. He emphasised that these pharmacies will be integrated with the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). The pharmacies are expected to start functioning in a month or two.

He said that pharmacies willing to participate in this initiative can apply under PMSSY within 15 days. This endeavor will also guarantee availability of essential surgical items, offering a major relief to patients. Pathak directed the officials to ensure that the quality factor will not be compromised. tnn
