It has been claimed that the newly developed hybrid system is so lightweight and compact that it can easily fit inside the current powertrains as well.

In a move to enhance the power, mileage and water-crossing performance of diesel-powered turbo engines, Japanese car maker Toyota has developed a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The advanced level of technology recently has been unveiled by the company, which initially will be implemented in Hilux and Land Cruiser Prado.

It is also expected that the same technology might come in the hot-selling product Fortuner as well. However, the brand is yet to share official details regarding the same.

While confirming the news, Toyota dropped a short video on the internet, revealing how the new 48-volt mild-hybrid system will work in the vehicles. As per the details shared by the company, the newly developed technology will have the three units named 48-volt motor/generator on the front, DC converter in the middle and 48-volt battery at the rear.  Those components will work together, and will generate the best performance in the diesel-powered vehicle.

It has been claimed that the system is so lightweight and compact that easily can fit in current powertrains as well.

The advanced level of the 48-volt mild-hybrid system will also allow the drivers to generate more fuel efficiency, smooth driving, and better performance even in city traffic, where the vehicle usually faces more start/stop of ignition. The company says the vehicles equipped with the latest hybrid technology, will be able to handle water depths up to 700 mm.

Latest hybrid system in Land Cruiser Prado

The company says it will introduce the technology in the Land Cruiser Prado, which is equipped with a 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre inline-four turbo diesel engine. The model will be released first in Australia and selected Western European markets.

Meanwhile, Toyota has not confirmed the introduction of technology in India as yet.
